Sharing with Connections

Control exactly what your connections can see with granular sharing controls.

Connecting with Others

Before sharing entries, you need to establish a connection. There are two ways to connect:

Via Invite Link

Your connection can send you an invite link. Click the link while signed in to automatically connect your accounts.

Via Email

Go to the Connections section and enter their email address. They'll receive a connection request that they can accept.

Access Levels

When a connection requests access, you can choose from three access levels:

LevelWhat They SeeBest For
SummaryBrief summaries of your entries (Layer 3)Initial consultations, maintaining privacy
SelectedEntries you explicitly share (Layer 2)Focused discussions on specific topics
FullAll entries at Layer 0 by defaultDeep therapeutic work with full trust

Sharing Sessions

When you approve access, a sharing session is created. Sessions have these properties:

  • Time-limited: Sessions expire after 48 hours by default
  • Revocable: You can revoke access at any time
  • Trackable: See exactly which entries your connections can access
  • Layer-controlled: Approve each layer request individually

Session Security

When a session expires or is revoked, your connection immediately loses access to all shared content. The decrypted content is removed from their view.

Layer Requests

Your connections can request access to more detailed layers of your entries. When they make a request:

  1. You receive a notification in the Sharing Requests section
  2. You see which entry and what layer they're requesting
  3. You can preview what they'll see before approving
  4. You can edit the content before sharing
  5. You approve or deny each request individually

Always Review First

Before approving a layer request, always preview the content. The "Generate AI Draft" button shows you exactly what will be shared. You can edit this before approving.

Revoking Access

You have complete control over shared content:

  • Revoke Session: Immediately end a connection's access to all shared entries
  • Deny Requests: Decline any layer request without explanation
  • Remove Connection: Disconnect completely and remove all access

When you revoke access, your connection loses the ability to view any shared content immediately. They cannot re-access it without your explicit approval.

Insights Sharing

When you share with a connection, they can also see your insights metrics (if you've set them up). This helps them track your progress without needing access to your raw journal content.

Insights are particularly useful for:

  • Tracking mood or energy over time
  • Identifying patterns between sessions
  • Discussing specific metrics during appointments
